Google Spam Team

The manual reviews carried out by Google's spam team are making March a hot month for some search engine optimizers. Several tweets from Google's spam team in March 2014

caused SEO agencies across Europe to sit up and take notice. While it was reiterated at the beginning of March (March 3, 2014) why purchasing links is not recommended and which criteria Google uses to classify a link as a "Paid Link", concrete actions following reminder tweets for our Spanish- and Italian-speaking search engine optimizers (March 10, 2014) were not long in coming.

The explanation from March 3 was important enough to Matt Cutts that he also posted it on his private Google+ account (Google+). Shortly after the reminders on March 10, tweets followed announcing manual actions against a link network operated by a German SEO agency, against a network of German SEO agencies, and against link networks in Spanish and Italian (March 14, 2014). While this was not a surprise in terms of content, this approach once again demonstrates how important and valuable content marketing with unique, interesting, and genuinely useful content is for natural link building.
